Crop scouting, also known as field scouting, is the very basic action of traveling through a crop field while making frequent stops for observations. Crop scouting is usually an expensive, time consuming, hit and miss process. Our aircraft can evaluate 100's of acres per day providing real time, cost effective, actionable data and recommendations.
Multi-Spectral imagery collected by our drones can assist growers by identifying areas of pest infestations, diseases, fertilizing needs, irrigation issues, canopy management, and fruit development. Our cameras can detect plant stress well before it becomes visible to the human eye. Satellite and aircraft data while helpful do not offer the incredible photographic resolutions possible during low level drone flights.
An orthophotograph is an aerial photograph geometrically corrected ("orthorectified") such that the scale is uniform: the photo has the same lack of distortion as a map. Unlike an uncorrected aerial photograph, an orthophotograph can be used to measure true distances, because it is an accurate representation of the Earth's surface, having been adjusted for topographic relief, lens distortion, and camera tilt.
We are FAA Part 107 Licensed Commercial UAV Pilots.
$1.0 million liability insurance standard with every flight. Higher coverage available.
We are retired scientists with over 50 years of combined field experience.
BLACKBIRD UAV LLC in Grants Pass Oregon offers world class multi spectral aerial imagery. Our aircraft are fully autonomous
and carry the industry leading MicaSense RedEdge MX, 5 channel multi-spectral camera. Blackbird UAV is a full service imagery provider with data collection, processing, analysis and interpretation capabilities. We offer standard vegetation indices NDVI, GNDVI, BNDVI, NDRE and many others. Blackbird has also developed a suite of Vegetation Indices designed specifically for the cannabis industry. We are currently developing new algorithms for determining hemp plant sex at an early age in cannabis crops.
Our small, maneuverable drones are capable of inspecting cell phone towers, bridges, and other dangerous industrial sites from virtually any angle and elevation. UAVs can be a quick, safe, and cost effective means to assess the condition of important equipment and infrastructure.
UAVs can play a pivotal and extremely helpful role in the construction industry. There are seven specific ways that drones are commonly used in construction projects. Land Surveying, Marketing & Promotion, Safety & Insurance, Showing Job Progress to Clients, Monitoring Multiple Job Sites, Construction Inspection, and Security.
We grew up in southern Oregon during the 1980"s and then moved to Reno to follow our professional careers. After 20 years in the city we were fed up and returned to beautiful southwest Oregon settling in Grants Pass. Our flying interests started as a hobby and has morphed into a dynamic and challenging endeavor. How to meld our years of experience with the diverse capabilities of autonomous aircraft.
Cindy has over 20 years experience in biology and advanced analytical chemistry. Cindy has an extensive technical background utilizing RT-PCR, HPTLC, GCMS, and ICPMS analytical systems. The idea for Blackbird UAV LLC stemmed from Cindy's experience as an analytical chemist testing for pesticide contamination. Blackbird has been designed with Precision Agriculture techniques as a model. Using targeted application methods growers can potentially reduce the overall application of pesticides and fertilizers. Cindy is also an FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot.
